| Question: |
Are the evaluations anonymous?
|
| Answer: |
Yes!
There is absolutely NO identification recorded with the evaluation
that can tie it back to you. We only ask you to login so that we can
control what classes you can evaluate, and so that we can keep track
of the classes that you have already evaluated.
When you submit an evaluation for a given class,
we record the fact that you have submitted an evaluation for the class, BUT WE DO NOT RECORD YOUR IDENTITY WITH
THE EVALUATION ITSELF.
In the past, instructors were allowed to see if a given student had evaluated his/her class. To better protect your privacy and
anonymity, we have decided to change this policy: instructors will only be allowed to see a PERCENTAGE. The percentage reflects the number of
students who have evaluated versus the number of students who take the class.

| Question: |
Why are classes from past semesters
listed?
|
| Answer: |
We provided this service so
that you may evaluate any classes you have taken from the College of
Engineering since the fall semester of the year 2003.

| Question: |
What is my user name and password?
|
| Answer: |
Your user name is the student number assigned to you by the University. If you are using our system for
the first time, or if you have never created a password on our system, then your password is the same as your user name.

|
| Question: |
Why do I need to provide a
question and answer when I change my password?
|
| Answer: |
The question and answer that
you provide will be used to identify you, in case you forget your
password and wish to reset it using our automated system. When you
forget your password, you will be presented with the question. If
you answer it correctly, your password will be reset. Since the
question is visible to anyone who has access to or can guess your
user name, be sure to make a question whose answer is
difficult to guess. For example, you might provide the question
'What is your favorite pet's name?' and the answer 'Rasmussen'.

|
|
| Question: |
I forgot my password. What do
I do?
|
| Answer: |
Attempt to login using your
user name and any password. If the
password is incorrect, then you will be provided with a link that
will enable you to reset your password. If you follow this link, you
will be presented with a question used to verify your identity. If
you answer the question correctly, your password will be reset.
IMPORTANT!! Please note that if you answer the question incorrectly
three times, you will not be able to reset your password using our
automated system. This is a security feature whose purpose is to
ensure the privacy of your data. This feature will be reset the next
time you login correctly. If you were unable to reset your password
using our automated system, please contact our system administrator
for assistance.

| Question: |
Will the instructor be able to see the evaluations for my class before he/she gives out grades?
|
| Answer: |
NO! Instructors are not allowed access to the evaluations for a given class until after the date
that grades are due.
|
|
|
| Question: |
Will the instructor be able to see that I submitted an evaluation?
|
| Answer: |
No. In the past, an instructor WAS allowed to see whether each of his/her students had evaluated.
We allowed this in the hopes of getting a greater participation rate. But now, by popular request,
and in order to better protect the anonymity of a student's submission, we have changed our policy. Now
instructors are only permitted to see a ratio that reflects the number of evaluations submitted versus the number
of students that take the class. In other words, if
10 students take a given class and only 9 of them submit an evaluation, the instructor will see the message
"9/10 (90%) evaluated".
When you submit your evaluation, the instructor will see the percentage grow, but cannot tell which student submitted the evaluation.

| Question: |
Why aren't ALL of the classes I take from Boise State University listed?
|
| Answer: |
Currently, we only administer evaluations for courses offered through the College of Engineering.
|
|
|
| Question: |
How can the evaluations be anonymous if I have to login?
|
| Answer: |
The database that we store the evaluations in contains two different tables, called
"Takes" and "Evaluations". The "Takes" table contains entries that associate you
with the classes that you take. There is one entry for each class that you take, and each
entry contains a field called "Status" that is set to "Yes" or "No", depending on whether or not
you have submitted an evaluation for the class. If you are only auditing the class, the
"Status" field will be set to "Audit".
When you submit an evaluation for a class, the "Status" field is set to "Yes", which tells us that you have
evaluated the class and should not be allowed to submit another evaluation. At the same time,
an entry is made in the "Evaluations" table that records your comments in the evaluation, as well as a time stamp that
marks the time on the server of the submission. No identification, nor any other information, is stored in the
"Evaluations" table. In other words, we cannot cross-reference the "Evaluations" with the "Takes", and therefore
cannot tell who submitted the evaluation, as long as more than one student submits an evaluation for the class.
